The Challenge
NordFastigheter AB ran their IT on a 7-year-old Windows Server 2016 with on-premises Exchange. No redundancy, untested backups, and an IT consultant who responded "when he could." With 35 employees across 3 offices, the situation was unsustainable — especially after losing 2 days of email during a power outage.
Our Solution
We designed a phased migration with zero downtime: 1. **Week 1:** Inventory of all devices, users, and data. Set up Microsoft 365 Business Premium with Azure AD, MFA, and Conditional Access. Configured Intune policies and Autopilot profiles. 2. **Week 2:** Migrated email from Exchange on-prem to Exchange Online using BitTitan MigrationWiz. Moved file server to SharePoint Online and OneDrive. Tested with a pilot group of 5 users. 3. **Week 3:** Rolled out to all 35 users. New Dell Latitude laptops were delivered with Autopilot — users logged in with their Microsoft account and the device configured itself. Defender for Business was activated on all devices. The old server was powered off after 30 days of parallel operation.
The Results
The migration was completed in 18 business days without a single hour of downtime. All 35 users are now on Microsoft 365 with MFA, Conditional Access, and Intune-managed devices. Email works flawlessly, files are accessible from any device, and IT costs dropped 40% compared to the old server infrastructure including consultant fees.
